Welcome to HerRhythm: What Is Cyclical Living & Why Does It Matter?

Hello you beautiful people and welcome to our first official post here at Periodically Speaking. We’re so excited to launch this space alongside the HerRhythm website—a space created for you to explore, understand, and work with your menstrual cycle, not against it.

You already track your steps, your water intake, maybe even your sleep. But have you ever thought about tracking your energy, your mood, or your creativity in relation to your cycle? That’s where cyclical living comes in—and once you begin, you won’t look back.

What Is Cyclical Living?

Cyclical living is the practice of aligning your lifestyle—how you eat, move, work, rest, and show up in the world—with the natural rhythm of your menstrual cycle.

Instead of expecting yourself to be at full capacity every day, cyclical living teaches you to lean into your body’s rhythm. There’s a time for pushing forward and a time for pulling back. A time for planning, and a time for reflecting. It’s not about doing less—it’s about doing what’s right for you in each phase.

The Four Phases of Your Cycle

Your menstrual cycle isn’t just your period. It’s a monthly rhythm that carries you through four distinct phases. Here’s a simple breakdown:

Menstrual Phase (Days 1–5)

Hormones are at their lowest. You may feel tired, quiet, or inward-focused. This is your natural time to rest and reset.

Follicular Phase (Days 6–14)

Estrogen begins to rise. You often feel brighter, more energised, and ready to take on new ideas and projects.

Ovulatory Phase (Around Day 14)

Your energy peaks. This is typically when you feel your most sociable, magnetic, and outgoing.

Luteal Phase (Days 15–28)

Progesterone increases. You may feel slower, more focused on tying up loose ends, or more emotionally sensitive. Productivity turns inward.

Once you know where you are in your cycle, you can start working with your body instead of fighting against it.

Why It Matters

When you live in sync with your cycle, everything starts to make more sense.

  • You can plan your month more effectively by scheduling around your natural highs and lows.

  • You’ll feel less guilty for needing rest, because you’ll understand why it’s happening.

  • You’ll start to notice patterns—emotional, physical, and energetic—that help you make clearer, more confident choices.

This isn’t about creating a strict system. It’s about listening in, tuning up, and letting your cycle guide you back to yourself.
